Price Chopper Scares Up Double the Halloween Fun for a Good Cause
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- The evening before its two latest replacement stores opened in Oswego and Oneida, N.Y., Price Chopper hosted two Halloween fundraising parties to benefit the local Onondaga-Oswego and Madison-Oneida Red Cross Chapters, as well as the Katrina Relief Fund.
The parties took place Saturday, Oct. 29 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. All donations were to be equally split between the local Red Cross and Katrina Fund. Price Chopper also pledged to donate $500 to each of the local Red Cross chapters that night. The stores offered musical entertainment and food samplings, and children and adults alike attended in costume. Among the activities available for children were trick or treating, cookie decorating, and pumpkin decorating. Admission was $5 per person, with children under 12 admitted free.
On Oct. 30 the two stores officially opened at 9 a.m. The stores they replaced closed at 6 p.m., Saturday, Oct 29.
The week before the two openings, Price Chopper opened a new replacement store in Fulton, N.Y. These three replacement store locations are part of a recent six-store acquisition from Tops Markets. The Fulton, Oswego, and Oneida locations are part of Phase I of Price Chopper's plan to remodel and the reopen stores, while Phase II includes the Owego, Sidney and Tupper Lake locations, for which opening dates and plans haven't yet been formulated.
The family-owned Golub Corp. owns and operates 110 Price Chopper grocery stores in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. Golub's approximately 22,000 associates collectively own 55 percent of the company's privately held stock.
