Price Chopper, Produce for Kids Give to Children’s Hospitals

As partners in the 12th annual Get Healthy, Give Hope campaign, Price Chopper Supermarkets and Produce For Kids have raised $9,405 for local Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals.

When shoppers bought fresh fruits and vegetables from companies participating in the campaign, which ran in Price Chopper stores from mid-June through July 2014, a donation went to CMN hospitals throughout the Northeast regional grocery chain's six-state market area.

"Not only does Produce for Kids encourage healthier choices, it teaches children the importance of giving back to those in need," said Mona Golub, VP of public relations and consumer services at Schenectady, N.Y.-based Price Chopper, which, she added, "has long focused on encouraging new ways to adopt healthy lifestyles, especially for children who are establishing habits that will last a lifetime."

Donations were kept in the regions where they were made.

Created in 2002 by sweet onion grower/shipper Shuman Produce Inc., Orlando, Fla.-based Produce for Kids raises funds for children's nonprofit organizations while educating families about the benefits of healthy eating.

The Golub Corp. owns and operates 134 Price Chopper grocery stores in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Golub's 22,000 associates collectively own more than 47 percent of the company's privately held stock, making it one of the nation's largest privately held corporations that is predominantly employee-owned.
