Price Chopper Names Jerry Golub COO

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Golub Corp./Price Chopper Supermarkets here said yesterday it has named Jerel "Jerry" Golub to the position of e.v.p. and c.o.o. The company also named Joe Kelley v.p. of sales & merchandising, and hired Donna Almeda as director of floral merchandising, a new position.

In his new post, Golub will report directly to president and c.e.o. Neil Golub, while Kelley will report to Jerel Golub and Almeda will report to v.p. of floral and lifestyle merchandising Jon Strom.

Replacing Larry Zettle, who has retired from the company, Jerel Golub will handle all sales and merchandising, store operations, warehousing, and distribution and supply chain initiatives for the regional chain. He has held numerous positions in sales & merchandising, marketing, administration, and finance, holding such positions as v.p. of marketing, v.p. of administration and strategic planning, corporate controller, treasurer, and, most recently, s.v.p. of sales & merchandising.

Succeeding Jerel Golub, Kelley will be responsible for all of the perishable and nonfoods merchandising for Price Chopper, and will additionally oversee the pharmacy, marketing, and advertising departments. A longtime Price Chopper veteran, he has served as store manager, zone director, senior category manager, v.p. of perishable merchandising, and, most recently, v.p. of merchandising.

Almeda will assist the v.p. of floral in such duties as increasing annual retail sales, overseeing product procurement, advertising and promotional campaigns, floral policies and procedures, and maintaining relationships with stores, customers and vendor partners. A college-certified floral designer with many years of experience in floral merchandising, Almeda has worked for Acme Markets as a buyer, was the sales manager for Garden State Growers, and most recently served as floral director for Pathmark.

The family-owned Golub Corp. owns and operates 116 Price Chopper stores in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. The company employs more than 23,000 associates who collectively own 55 percent of the its privately held stock.
