Price Chopper Helps ‘Little Kids Rock’

Price Chopper Supermarkets has teamed up with CBS Radio Hartford in Connecticut to support national nonprofit Little Kids Rock, which provides children in economically challenged school districts with instruments and music education.

Billed as the only national school-based music program emphasizing composition and improvisation, Little Kids Rock focuses on rock, blues, country, reggae and hip-hop. Donated items include electric guitars, acoustic and bass guitars; keyboards; drum kits; microphones; amplifiers; and recording equipment.

Since 2002, the Verona, N.J.-based organization has donated more than $12 million worth of curriculum, training and instruments (37,000-plus) to U.S. public schools.

"The Little Kids Rock fundraising program was brought to Price Chopper in conjunction with our annual partnership with CBS Radio in Hartford," Pam Cerrone, the grocer's manager of community relations, told Progressive Grocer. "It's a great program, with an emphasis on enriching kids' lives through the arts, and we're happy to be supporting it."

Other partners in the community-based endeavor are TAB Computer Systems Inc., Eblens, Apple Auto and Barberino Nissan. The Schenectady, N.Y.-based Golub Corp. owns and operates 135 Price Chopper grocery stores in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

CBS Radio Hartford plans to host a Little Kids Rock Party at a local school this spring.
