Police Investigating Baby Formula Thefts at Supermarkets

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. -- A supermarket here is putting a popular baby formula behind lock and key to deter thefts, according to the Concord Monitor.

Only the manager at the Hannaford store now has access to Enfamil. The police are investigating thefts of the baby formula at area supermarkets because it has become a popular black market item, according to local authorities.

The police arrested someone at a Shaw's market on July 27 and said they have suspects in other unrelated thefts of the baby formula.

A 28.5-ounce can of Enfamil with iron costs about $20.
