PMA Connects Members and Legislators Online

NEWARK, Del. -- With the introduction of a newly launched Advocacy Action Center, members of the Produce Marketing Association (PMA) can now connect easily and efficiently with legislators via the Web.

Through the Advocacy Action Center members can monitor legislative activities and communicate via e-mail with elected officials. The center is also a resource for information on a variety of matters, including Country of Origin Labeling (COOL), Farm Bill policies and issues, labor and agricultural jobs, Food Safety, and Food Security and Nutrition.

For each topic, the site provides links to government resources, legislative and regulatory initiatives, published articles, news, issue alerts, and relevant Web sites.

Commenting on the new member service, Kathy Means, PMA's v.p. of government relations, said it's, "one more example of how PMA is working to provide year round value to its members. We have designed the center to enable members to communicate more effectively with legislative decision-makers, which helps ensure that important issues get to the table and are voted on."

"This advocacy center provides all the tools everyone, from the newest advocates to the most seasoned, needs to take action," said Means, noting a free online advocacy classroom, sample letters, and tips.

"PMA's Advocacy Action Center is a great resource for produce industry members," commented Dave Corsi of Wegmans Food Markets, "no matter what issue or concern they may face in the supply chain, as retailers, wholesalers, foodservice professionals or distributors."
