PJ’s Organics Supports Non-GMO Project
PJ’s Organics, the South San Francisco, Calif.-based brand of chicken and beef burritos, has announced its support of the Non-GMO Project by enrolling in the organization’s Non-GMO Verification Program.
“As a brand that stands for certified organic ingredients, which are inherently GMO-free, PJ’s Organics is very excited to support the Non-GMO Project’s initiative by offering an independent, third-party verification option to allow for non-GMO crops and ingredients to be confirmed as such and thrive among such strong corporate support for GMO proliferation,” said P.J. Sartorio, company namesake and the creative force driving the business.
PJ’s Organics burritos are in the verification process, which includes the following USDA Organic-certified items: Chicken Burrito, Steak & Cheese Burrito, Breakfast Burrito, Skinny Burrito, Five-Layer Burrito and Southwestern Burrito.
According to the Non-GMO Project website, in 2007, 91 percent of soy, 87 percent of cotton and 73 percent of corn grown in the United States were genetically modified organisms. “It is estimated that over 75 percent of canola grown is GMO,” the website states. “As a result, it is estimated that GMOs are now present in more than 80 percent of packaged products in the average U.S. or Canadian grocery store.”
Since 2007, PJ’s has been hand-rolling authentic Mexican burritos, enchiladas, taquitos and flautas, using only organic ingredients sourced locally whenever possible. For more information, visit www.pjsorganics.com.
