Piggly Wiggly Readies for Charity Golf Classic
Piggly Wiggly Carolina Co. plans to hold its eighth annual Charity Golf Classic, which will benefit local nonprofits across South Carolina and coastal Georgia next month. The event will kick off with a Sept. 29 dinner and auction hosting Piggly Wiggly employee owners and vendor partners. The tournament, held simultaneously at four Charleston, S.C.-area golf courses, will take place on Sept. 30.
Attracting more than 500 participants, the classic is the Charleston-based company’s largest annual charity event and has raised millions of dollars since its inception.
Proceeds from the event go into the Piggly Wiggly Community Pride Fund held by the Coastal Community Foundation. The funds are then distributed throughout the year to charitable organizations focused on education, health care, hunger prevention and the arts, in addition to churches and synagogues, a wide variety of community events, and many other efforts.
This year, Piggly Wiggly will augment the event’s fundraising component by recruiting its more than 100 stores to support the effort. Locations will offer customers the opportunity to donate $1 or more to the campaign at checkout, with in-store donations accepted through Sept. 25.
“By shopping locally with Piggly Wiggly, our customers support local charitable organizations, as well as local farmers, manufacturers, and our local employee owners,” said Piggly Wiggly Carolina Co. president and CEO David R. Schools. “Through fundraising opportunities like this, Piggly Wiggly customers join The Pig in expanding our longstanding investments in local charities and their important work that builds and enriches our communities.”
