PG to Host Roundtable at New ECRM Front End Checkout Event

ECRM, a Cleveland, Ohio-based trade event and software company, has launched a new event that will focus on the front end checklane area of the store.

Called the Checklane and Front End EPPS, the event, which is scheduled to take place June 15 through June 17, 2010, in Adventura, Fla., will use ECRM’s pre-scheduled, one-on-one meeting format in which retailers will be linked with checklane suppliers, fixture designers, service providers and RDA collection service providers.

“The checklane and front end category has great potential,” said Ed Reilly, ECRM’s VP of grocery. “There is overwhelming information that points to the need for this type of event; it’s a $37 billion category without a dedicated event. This is an excellent opportunity for retailers and checklane suppliers to make a valuable connection and make the most of this category.”

The Checklane and Front End event will also feature an educational presentation presented by Raymond D. Jones of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.-based Dechert-Hampe & Co. The presentation, “Front End Focus,” is a comprehensive industry study of shopper behavior and retailer sales results at the front end checkout. It outlines a set of best practices designed to maximize performance and enhance the shopper experience.

“‘Front End Focus’ is a comprehensive research effort designed to identify best practices and maximize performance at the front end,” Jones said of his presentation.

The event will additionally feature a private roundtable event sponsored by Progressive Grocer, “The Future of the Front End & Checklane,” which will give retailers the opportunity to discuss current trends in the industry.

“The front end checkout has remained virtually unchanged for the past 50 years,” said Joseph Tarnowski, Senior Editor at PG. “The roundtable is a great opportunity for retailers to brainstorm on what the future of the checkout might be, and discuss issues and challenges on how the checkout is managed, checkout designs, front end displays, front end technology and more, with retailers attending this event.”

Current retail attendees of ECRM’s events include Rite Aid; HEB; Dollar General Corp.; Winn-Dixie; Bed Bath & Beyond; Blockbuster, Big Lots, Inc.; OfficeMax, Inc.; and Michaels Craft Stores. ECRM expects that the event will host around 50 retail companies and approximately 50 suppliers/distributers.
