Peapod Comes to Pa.’s Lehigh Valley

Online grocer Peapod and its sister Ahold USA retail division, Giant Food Stores, have introduced home and business delivery service to communities in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh and Northampton counties. Grocery delivery via Peapod is now available in Allentown, Bethlehem, Catasauqua, Easton, Emmaus, Hellertown, Macungie, Nazareth, Trexlertown and Zionsville.

Residents and businesses in those areas are now able to visit Peapod's website to shop for fresh produce, seafood, meat and dairy, as well as national brands and Giant private label products. Additionally, they can earn Giant Gas Rewards and A+ School Rewards for their online purchases. The convenient service further enables users to create personal lists, look up nutrition information online, and sort products quickly by price or by nutrition criteria.

'Commitment to Convenience and Value'

Giant BonusCard holders can start their first online shopping trip with a list of items they've already bought at their neighborhood Giant store, by entering the card number online. New customers can receive free delivery for orders of $100 or more for 60 days by signing up for a free trial of Peapod by Giant's new Pod Pass subscription service.

"This expansion effort is in direct response to customer demand," explained Andrea Eldridge, SVP commercial, Peapod East Markets. "We have received dozens of requests for each of these ZIP codes."

"The introduction of Peapod to our Lehigh Valley customers showcases Giant's commitment to convenience and value," noted John MacDonald, director of marketing and external communications at Carlisle, Pa.-based Giant/Martin's, which operates nearly 200 grocery stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia under the names of Giant Food Stores and Martin's Food Markets. "In addition to our convenient store locations, customers now have the opportunity to shop when, where and how they want to with Peapod’s delivery service."

As well as the Lehigh Valley, Peapod by Giant grocery delivery is also available in the greater Philadelphia area, including Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties. More than 15 million households in the Northeast now have access to Peapod.

Skokie, Ill.-based Peapod serves 24 U.S. markets in communities in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Maryland, District of Columbia, Virginia, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. To date, Peapod has delivered more than 29 million orders to homes, businesses and pickup locations since 1989.
