Pathmark's Weehawken In-store Clinic Delayed
CARTERET, N.J. -- The MiniMedCare clinic originally scheduled to open next month in a Pathmark store in Weehawken will be delayed for an indeterminate length of time while the necessary approvals are sought, Pathmark spokesman told Progressive Grocer.
Earlier this month, Pathmark and Chester, N.J.-based MiniMedCare said they would open the first of 12 planned in-store clinics in the Weehawken location.
The delay was apparently the result of what the Pathmark spokesman said was a "misunderstanding" about whether approvals had been secured for the project.
In a local press report, Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner had said he was unaware of the project until he read about it in the newspaper. "In order to do something like this, [Pathmark has] to get the proper codes and approvals," the local official said.
Pathmark's spokesman explained that it wasn't the grocer's intention to bypass the normal process businesses must go through to open such a facility. "Our doctors are proceeding to obtain the necessary approvals, and we will be opening the clinic thereafter," the spokesman said. He was unable to give a time period for the revised opening.
Pathmark has had a store in Weehawken since 1982.
