Pathmark Extends Pharmacy Advantage Club Enrollment

CARTERET, N.J. -- In response to rising concerns about health care costs, Pathmark Stores, Inc., has extended the enrollment period for its new Pharmacy Advantage Club, which helps those who qualify manage their prescription drug costs. The program's initial enrollment period began on Feb. 23, and has been extended through April 28, from the original cut-off date of March 31.

Participation is open to all Pathmark Advantage Card holders and free for all enrollees. Consumers may sign up for a Pathmark Advantage Card and club participation at any of the grocer's locations. Although the club isn't an insurance program, it offers qualifying members a $4 co-pay on over 300 generic medications for up to a 30-day supply, at commonly prescribed dosages.

Coverage under the club program can't be combined with any other prescription program. The list of covered drugs is available at all of Pathmark's 128 pharmacies, as well as on the retailer's Web site, www.pathmark.com. The drug categories covered for those belonging to the Pharmacy Advantage Club include allergy, asthma, cardiac, diabetes, thyroid, and cough and cold.

Further, customers who join the club are eligible for priority scheduling in company-sponsored flu shots and immunization programs, in addition to free bone density, diabetes, and blood pressure screenings.

"Our Pharmacy Advantage Club costs nothing to join and offers consumers another way to save on their prescription purchases," said Pathmark co-president and c.m.o. Ken Martindale in a statement. "As always, our highly skilled pharmacists are available for individual consultation with our customers in the area of patient care."

Slated for acquisition by Montvale, N.J.-based A&P for $1.3 billlion, Pathmark currently operates 141 stores in the New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia Metropolitan areas.
