Pathmark Debuting Largest Store in Chain

CARTERET, N.J. -- Pathmark Stores, Inc. said yesterday that its newest store, slated to open today on Oak Tree Road in Edison, N.J., will be the largest of the grocer's 143 stores, at 74,800 square feet. The store is Pathmark's second in Edison.

Noted Pathmark c.e.o. John Standley in a statement: "At nearly 75,000 square feet, our Oak Tree Road store allows us the opportunity to offer shoppers a wide variety of items which can satisfy all their household needs." He added that the store features Pathmark's latest merchandising concepts.

The Oak Tree Road Pathmark's innovative features will include a full-service floral department selling custom bouquets and handling special orders, a bakery department offering gourmet desserts and free cake decorating, a film and digital photo center, and a kitchen shop providing a selection of bakeware, cookware, and home appliances

The new store will additionally offer an in-store dining area where shoppers can enjoy items from the Chef Creations section, which specializes in a vast assortment of hot prepared meals, or the custom sandwich shop open daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; an international food section; a pharmacy department accepting almost all major health plans; and a nonfood department with a section dedicated to home office items.

Staffed by 200 store associates, the store will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
