Pathmark Boosting Gourmet Coffee Offering

CARTERET, N.J. -- Pathmark Stores, Inc. has rolled out Green Mountain Coffee Roasters and Newman's Own Organics coffee, both from Waterbury, Vt.-based Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc., to its grocery shelves. The coffees are available at 90 Pathmark stores in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.

The Northeast retailer, which is in the process of merging with fellow New Jersey grocer A&P, is offering Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Signature coffees and Newman's Own Organics varieties in 10- and 12-ounce packages, as well as in self-serve bulk displays. This includes a variety of Fair Trade Certified organic coffees.

Pathmark is promoting the new offerings with in-store displays for both the packaged and bulk coffee.

"We believe Green Mountain Coffee Roasters and Newman's Own Organics will be well received by Pathmark customers," said Pathmark director of category management Ken Liebl in a statement.

The grocer already carries Yuban's and Chock-Full-O-Nuts organic coffee, Pathmark spokesman Rich Savner told Progressive Grocer.

Pathmark operates 141 supermarkets in the New York-New Jersey and Philadelphia metropolitan areas and employs over 25,000 associates.

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters sells over 100 high quality selections, including Fair Trade Certified and organic coffees under the Green Mountain Coffee Roasters and Newman's Own Organics brands. It also owns Keurig, Inc., a manufacturer of gourmet single-cup brewing systems.
