Panasuk Named Penn Traffic C.E.O.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Penn Traffic Co. here said yesterday that it had appointed Robert Panasuk president and c.e.o., effective immediately. At the same time, Gregory J. Young was named e.v.p. and c.o.o. Panasuk and Young have served as co-c.o.o.'s at the supermarket operator for the past two months.

"In just a short amount of time, the executive management team of Bob Panasuk and Greg Young has energized our employees and set an exciting direction for improvement in all areas of our operations," said Penn Traffic chairman Robert Kelly in a statement. "Under their leadership, we believe the company is rapidly becoming more competitive and laying the groundwork for future growth in sales and profitability."

Before joining Penn Traffic in October, 30-year retail veteran Panasuk was e.v.p. of A&P, where he oversaw merchandising, marketing, and distribution for U.S. operations.

Young, who rejoined Penn Traffic in July from Keene, N.H.-based C&S Wholesale Grocers, where he led retail operations, has worked for Penn Traffic for a total of over 25 years. Previously Young served as a group v.p. of A&P.

Penn Traffic has 111 supermarkets in Pennsylvania, upstate New York, Vermont and New Hampshire under the BiLo, P&C, and Quality trade names. The company also operates a wholesale food distribution business serving 74 licensed franchises and 48 independent operators, and Penny Curtiss, a Syracuse-based commercial bakery.
