Pan-Oston Adds Small-Footprint Modular Self-Checkout to Utopia Line

Pan-Oston has launched a small-footprint modular self-checkout system as part of its Utopia product line to give retailers added flexibility for their checkout configurations.

Retailers can customize checkouts by selecting the cabinet style, hardware, software and features for the system, and then later add or remove components as their customer preferences or business needs evolve.

“Our modular line was designed to give independent grocers all the benefits of self-checkout along with their favorite feed, takeaway and bagging system,” said Jim Vance, president of Bowling Green, Ky.-based Pan-Oston. “And maybe even more beneficial is the fact that the lanes can be easily changed by adding or removing cabinet, hardware and software components, as well as features, so they never become obsolete.”

As with every Utopia self-checkout, the modular line gives retailers the option of using their existing checkout peripherals, such as monitors, scanners, printers and EFTs, with the new system.

Utopia is a plug-and-play self-checkout solution, developed to work with both Microsoft.NET or Linux software, that includes a Bank Note Recycler and the choice of “scan,” “bag” and “pass” lanes; traditional modular units; in-counter or countertop units; and even a cashier-optional model.
