Ocean Mist’s Signs of the Times
In a bid to boost consumer awareness of its fresh artichokes, Ocean Mist Farms is drawing attention to the location of its ranches along the Highway 1 corridor in northern California with four 12-foot-high color signs facing both north- and southbound traffic.
The signs, unveiled at the beginning of the month, feature an image of Hugo Tottino, one of Ocean Mist’s grower/owners.
“The timing is ideal, as the 2010 U.S. Open Championship will visit the Monterey Peninsula the week of June 14 through June 20,” said the Castroville, Calif.-based company’s marketing manager, Kori Tuggle. “Thousands of people drive the highway every day.”
According to Tuggle, “The signs are a low-cost way to generate awareness about where artichokes grow and our land base along the coast, with residents as well as visitors to the Monterey Bay.”
While attendance over the eight days of the 2010 U.S. Open Championship tournament, including practice rounds, is expected to top 200,000, the Ocean Mist signs will remain in place permanently, the grower said.
