NRF to Bow 'Secure Store' at Loss Prevention Conference
WASHINGTON -- The National Retail Federation said yesterday it will introduce an LP Secure Store at this year's Loss Prevention Conference and Expo, to be held June 11-13 at the San Diego Convention Center.
The Secure Store display will have the same look and feel of a retail store, according to NRF. Each technology element displayed will be exclusive to one of the 12 participating sponsors, and will be shown within the store's life-like environment.
Technologies on display will range from in-depth auditing tools to high-tech tags with magnetic detachers, which keep apparel and other merchandise safe when employees aren't able to monitor a specific area.
One major theme being displayed in the store will be the use of RFID in retail stores today. Motorola will display their "magicmirror," which will allow consumers to connect with the product physically and emotionally by not only communicating the story of each tagged product, but also by recommending accessories to go along with the merchandise.
Other products being showcased inside the store include floor mat systems which detect booster bags and other metal cloaking devices, video analytic applications that detect and analyze customer traffic throughout the day, video management systems that capture and evaluate existing video, and IT networks designed to alert staff about long lines or wait times.
"As thieves become more brazen, retailers must constantly evaluate new technologies to stay ahead of criminals," said NRF v.p. of loss prevention Joseph LaRocca. "The technologies displayed in the Secure Store will give retailers information about the best ways to protect stores, merchandise, and employees. Additionally, retailers will also discover new ways to connect with customers on a deeper level."
The Secure Store will be open June 11 from 3-7 p.m. and June 12 from 12:30-5:30 p.m. It is being designed by Hybridia Design. Sponsors for the store to date include: Creative Options, Datavantage, Detex, Global Compliance, Lagard, Metro One, Motorola, National Guardian, RSS Partners, Inc., The Return Exchange, Universal Surveillance, and Verint.
