Nielsen Teams with Cognos to Enhance Information Delivery
NEW YORK -The Nielsen Co. last Friday said it formed a strategic agreement with Cognos, a provider of business intelligence and performance-management solutions, to enhance the delivery of integrated information services for its clients.
For Nielsen, the partnership represents a first step in moving to a common business intelligence platform that will make it easy to integrate consumer, media, client, and other data to deliver innovative, high value information solutions, said the company, which is the parent of Progressive Grocer.
"Standardizing on commercially available business analysis / reporting technology will allow us to focus on our unique expertise - the rapid development of value-added applications and solutions for the key clients and markets that we serve" the company said in a statement.
Nielsen said it will also use Cognos solutions internally to strengthen its management processes and gain greater visibility into performance.
"Cognos will enhance and accelerate the growth of major initiatives, such as Nielsen Answers, recognized in February by Gartner Group as delivering 'the most complete strategic information for consumer goods manufacturers," said Mitchell Habib, e.v.p. of Nielsen Global Business Solutions, in a statement. "Cognos' technology is consistent with and builds on the vision of Nielsen Answers, allowing new capabilities to be added faster and more economically."
With Cognos, Nielsen has developed an IT operating framework that is based on three guiding principles:
- Simple: Consolidates multiple platforms by business/product into one, achieving a common user experience along with speed and cost efficiencies;
- Open: Incorporates widely used, industry-best commercial products to drive faster adoption rates and allow developers to focus on market- and client-specific applications;
- Boundaryless: Integrates information across all sources, geographies, and markets to provide clients with end-to-end views of their markets and their businesses.
