NGA Presents Champion of Independent Grocers Award

The National Grocers Association (NGA) today presented U.S. Representative Todd Young (IN-9) with its inaugural Champion of Independent Grocers Award in recognition of his efforts to advance pro-growth policies and workable solutions for independent grocers and wholesalers.

"NGA appreciates Congressman Young's leadership on H.R. 2575, the Save American Workers Act, which seeks to fix one of the most problematic provisions of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the definition of a full-time employee as those averaging 30 hours a week," said Peter J. Larkin, president/CEO of NGA. "Reinstating a 40-hour workweek is vital to our members' businesses and to their goal of providing quality benefits and available hours to their employees. We are grateful for Congressman Young's work on this bill, and for his support of policies that help independent grocers expand their businesses and create jobs in their communities."  

The award recognizes members of Congress who have demonstrated support for policies that advance and strengthen the independent supermarket industry.

The National Grocers Association is the national trade association representing the retail and wholesale grocers that comprise the independent sector of the food distribution industry.
