N.G.A. Names Manager of Gov’t Affairs

The National Grocers Association (N.G.A.) has hired Brian D. Callahan to be the trade organization’s manager of government affairs. In his new role, Callahan will primarily focus on key issues that affect independent grocers in the areas of employment/labor, food safety, transportation and SNAP/WIC.

“His solid background in politics, legislative and regulatory policy will be very beneficial to N.G.A.'s independent retailers and wholesalers nationwide,” noted Peter Larkin, president and CEO of the Arlington, Va.-based N.G.A. “We are confident that he … will have an immediate, positive effect on our efforts on Capitol Hill.”

Callahan comes to the trade group after most recently consulting on international trade, state-level human resource and labor issues. Before that, he was manager, federal government relations for the American Bakers Association (ABA), where he worked on health care, labor and transportation issues, as well as coordinating efforts to defeat the Employee Free Choice Act. Prior to the ABA, he worked for Sen. John Sununu (R-N.H.) in various capacities, including work on environment, energy and transportation matters.
