Newport Ave. Market Raises $42K for Family Kitchen
Newport Avenue Market’s “Food for February” fundraiser raised $42,557 to benefit Family Kitchen of Bend, Ore. Customers donated $21,279, and the independent retailer matched the customer-raised funds to contribute about half of the ingredients needed to make the more than 60,000 meals the food bank plans on distributing in 2015. The money was raised during a promotional campaign that ran throughout the month of December.
For the third year of the campaign, Newport worked with its warehouse, Unified Grocers, to order the food at wholesale prices. Beginning today, the food will be delivered to Family Kitchen for 48 consecutive weeks.
“We could not be more pleased that Newport Avenue Market chose to partner with us for the second year in a row,” said Donna Burklo, development and marketing director of Family Kitchen.
“We are proud to be part of one of the largest food donations in the tri-county region, thanks to our generous customers,” said Lauren Johnson, COO of Newport Avenue Market. “February is historically one of the hardest hitting months for hungry families in Central Oregon and this campaign will deliver food for February, and then some.”
