New Role for Boehnen at Supervalu

David Boehnen, EVP at Minneapolis-based Supervalu Inc., will step down as a company officer effective Dec. 15 but will continue to consult for the grocer for a year as a senior counselor to Craig Herkert, Supervalu’s CEO and president.

“Dave has made many contributions to Supervalu in leading the legal function as well as real estate and corporate development that have shaped who Supervalu is today,” Herkert said. “I have personally appreciated his advice and counsel during my first 18 months with Supervalu and I look forward to continuing to work with Dave in his new capacity and sincerely thank him for his years of service.”

During his 20-year tenure with Supervalu, Boehnen has been responsible for legal, business development, real estate and store development, as well as government affairs. He has served as an advisor to the CEO and the board of directors on a number of significant issues and opportunities that have influenced the company’s growth.

“I have had a close relationship with Supervalu extending for many years, even before I joined the company in early 1991. I will reflect on it fondly as I move into the next phase of my career,” Boehnen said. “While I will no longer be involved in the day-to-day activities of the company, I look forward to working with Craig and the management team in my new capacity.”

With Boehnen’s new role, Todd Sheldon, group VP of legal, will be promoted to senior VP and general counsel, reporting to Andy Herring, EVP of real estate, market development and legal.

Supervalu operates 4,280 stores, including 1,160 traditional retail stores, including 813 in-store pharmacies, 1,210 hard-discount stores and 1,910 independent stores serviced primarily by the company’s traditional food distribution business.
