New England Planned Community to Build Old School Grocery Store
PLYMOUTH, Mass. -- Pinehills, LLC, a "master-planned community" here, has said yesterday it will open a 13,000-square-foot full-service grocery store that will be housed in a structure resembling "a vintage New England barn," and hearken back to the days of small-town grocers and personal service.
Pinehills managing partner Tony Green said the market will offer such items as fresh and local produce, seafood, meats, cheeses, and baked goods.
The store will be designed and run by Michael Szathmary, who director of operations for Legal Seafoods Marketplace during the 1980s, and was involved in the rollout of the Nature's Heartland market in the early 1990s. He has also established his own Boston-area market/cafes, Zathmary's.
"It will be the quintessential New England grocery store, and will carry a wide array of the freshest, local, domestic, and imported food items," Szathmary said.
"The key word here is fresh, fresh, fresh," said Szathmary. "Our market is reminiscent of the days when you visited your local purveyor and received personal service and selection."
The mixed-use community is also currently building a 43,000-square-foot tennis and fitness club, which is scheduled to open later this year. Other retailers at Pinehills include TD Banknorth Massachusetts, Blinds Unlimited, Countrywide Home Loans, Frame-It Studio & Gallery, Hollis Insurance Agency, Martin's Flowers, Long Ridge Wine & Spirits, Cafe Olio, and the Jordan Rehabilitation Center.
According a representative from Pinehills, the location, which will be the community's first grocery store, is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2008.
