New Country of Origin Web Site Unveiled

WASHINGTON - A coalition of food and agricultural organizations, with strong concerns about mandatory country-of-origin labeling for meat, produce, seafood, and peanuts yesterday unveiled a new Web site (www.countryoforiginlabel.org) that consolidates information about how the law will impact various sectors of agriculture and food production into one easy-to-use site. The site also contains country-of-origin labeling implementation information for various agriculture and food industry sectors.

"We hope this resource will be useful to the meat, produce, peanut, and seafood industries, who are working diligently to comply with the law's massive requirements," said American Meat Institute president J. Patrick Boyle, a member of the Food Industry Trade Coalition. "We also hope that the site will help policymakers understand the widespread impact of the law and the absence of any evidence that consumers will support the costly labels -- or pay more for them."
