New Calif. Division S.V.P. Named at Albertsons

BOISE, Idaho -- Albertsons, Inc. here said Sue Klug will assume s.v.p./sales and merchandising duties for the chain’s California food division on May 23.

"Sue Klug is one of the most talented professionals in the supermarket industry, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the Albertsons leadership team," said Larry Johnston, Albertsons chairman, c.e.o. and president.

Klug will report directly to Pete Van Helden, president and c.e.o. of Albertsons California food division, which consists of more than 500 stores in California and Nevada employing more than 41,000 associates. Remarking on Klug's appointment, Van Helden said: "Sue's unique blend of leadership experiences and her proven track record across a broad spectrum of marketing and merchandising disciplines will be invaluable as we continue the transformation of Albertsons' largest division."

Klug joins Albertsons with more than 25 years of merchandising and marketing experience in the areas of information technology, inventory management, strategic planning, consumer research, advertising, public relations and loyalty marketing for the supermarket industry. She most recently served as chief development officer for St. Petersburg, Fla.-based Catalina Marketing Corp. She also previously served as s.v.p./sales and marketing for Lucky and Vons in California.

Albertsons operates more than 2,500 stores in 37 states across the U.S. and employs more than 240,000 associates employed at various banners including Albertsons, Acme Markets, Shaw's, Star Market, Jewel-Osco, Sav-on Drugs, and Osco Drug, as well as Super Saver and Bristol Farms, which are operated independently.
