NCR Applying RFID Tags to Retail Technology Shipments

ATLANTA - To help jump start the industry's transition to radio frequency identification (RFID), retail technology supplier NCR Corporation here began yesterday to apply RFID tags to cartons and pallets of retail technology products shipped from its Atlanta Customer Fulfillment Center.

The service is made possible by the implementation of NCR TransitionWorks Retail RFID Compliance, a turnkey application package offered by the company's Automatic Identification and Data Collection (AIDC) Solutions Group.

The suppliers is already sending RFID-tagged shipments "to a major retailer," said Dale Grant, v.p., Americas, for NCR Retail and Hospitality Solutions.

"Businesses that implement RFID solutions in their supply-chain operations can gain added efficiencies by being able to automatically identify and validate the NCR shipment, including the individual items, and direct it to the proper destination," Grant said.

The NCR TransitionWorks Retail RFID Compliance package provides all the components needed to install and implement a solution that fully meets retailers' RFID mandates.

The package is one of the offerings in a suite of pre-defined solutions built on NCR's AIDC software development platform, NCR TransitionWorks. These solutions organize and communicate data collected through RFID, bar code, biometrics, voice, and other AIDC technologies. The solutions are developed to provide visibility to inventory and assets, allow organizations to automate processes, and interface with other software including enterprise resource planning (ERP), data warehousing, and analytics solutions.
