NACDS Foundation Scholarship Awards Hit $120K in 2007

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- The National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) Foundation last year awarded $122,000 in pharmacy student scholarships, thanks to what it said was dramatic growth in benefactor contributions.

The NACDS Foundation dispenses the awards as part of its Pharmacy Student Scholarship Program, to support the development of future leaders in community pharmacy practice. In 2007 it awarded 60 scholarships, 20 more than in 2006. “With the continuing support from our benefactors, the Foundation’s scholarship program enables us to positively impact the critical shortage of community pharmacists,” said NACDS Foundation president, Phil Schneider.

The NACDS Foundation is the education, research, and charitable affiliate of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores. It supports programs that advance and strengthen the chain pharmacy industry for the benefit of the public it serves.

Among its activities, the Foundation provides scholarships for pharmacy students and supports pharmacy education programs that address the needs of community pharmacy practice. Additionally, the Foundation supports research efforts documenting community pharmacy's role and value in America's health care system, as well as addressing effective and safe use of medicines.
