Muffin Mix Recalled After Undeclared Milk Discovered

ALBANY, N.Y. - Packages of blueberry muffin mix sold in Hannaford grocery stores in five states have been recalled after inspectors found undeclared milk in them.

Routine sampling by New York state Department of Agriculture and Markets food inspectors revealed the presence of milk, though the Hannaford brand labels did not indicate milk was an ingredient. People who have allergies to milk may run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reactions if they consume the product.

Scarborough, Maine-based Hannaford Bros. Co. recalled the 18.25-ounce boxes of muffin mix, which were sold in stores in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont.

No illnesses have been reported to date, and consumers are being asked to return unused packages to a Hannaford store for a full refund.
