Move Over Turkey, Steaks & Seafood Making Waves

While the majority of supermarket chains focused on turkey this week, many are also aggressively promoting other fresh meat products, including steaks and seafood.

Tobey’s Grocery Markets, which operates three locations in South China, Maine, is offering a new twist on Black Friday shopping with Certified Angus Beef steaks. Tobey’s Black Friday promotion, which runs through from Nov. 26-28, features a free set of steak knives with $75 purchases of CAB beef.

Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Meijer, meanwhile, is promoting seafood heavily this week with specials on 28 different products and sauces. Discounted seafood items include snow crab clusters for $8.99 per pound, tilapia fillets for $3.49 per pound and shrimp platters for various prices depending on the size.

For its part, Scarborough, Maine-based Hannaford Bros. is also discounting a number of its seafood items during Thanksgiving week, including 1- to 1.25-pound live lobsters for $6.99 per pound, 41/50 cooked cocktail shrimp rings for $7.99 a pound and fresh pollock fillets at $3.99 a pound.
