More Retailers Offer Flu Shots -- Including One With a Natural Twist

QUINCY Mass. and BOULDER, Colo. -- The Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. and Wild Oats Natural Marketplace are among the latest retailers to offer influenza vaccinations this flu season, which runs from early October to May.

Stop & Shop, together with Maxim Healthcare, is providing flu and pneumonia vaccinations in the pharmacy sections of select stores through Saturday, Nov. 19. In accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations, vaccinations will be limited to high-risk individuals, including those over 65, those with chronic health conditions, and pregnant women. The cost is $25 per flu vaccination and $35 per pneumonia vaccination. Medicare beneficiaries with Part B coverage can receive vaccinations at no charge.

Wild Oats will host flu vaccine clinics for all people 18 and older during October at its stores in the state of Colorado, Salt Lake City, and the Portland, Ore. area, as well as at its Henry's Farmers Market locations in San Diego and Phoenix. Medical professionals will be on hand to administer preservative-free flu vaccinations, in keeping with the company's position as a destination for natural products.

The cost is $25 per vaccination, with cash, check, or charge payments accepted. An approved Medicare provider is running the clinics, so qualified people should bring their Medicare IDs. Vaccination recipients will receive insurance reimbursement receipts.
