More Than 1 Million Tesco Customers Use Self-checkout Every Week
LONDON -- Tesco is currently seeing more than 1 million customers use its self-checkout units each week, and expects this number to grow as it deploys units across more of its stores.
Tesco offers NCR FastLane self-checkout systems in its Metro stores, Superstores, and Extra hypermarkets across England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland. To date, the retailer has installed self-checkout units in 236 stores and plans to deploy the technology in an additional 20 stores by the end of the year.
"NCR's self-checkout units have proven an enormous hit with our customers," said Attila Winstanley, productivity director for Tesco. "We are seeing self-checkout usage figures increase week on week. In some of our smaller-format stores, 50 percent of all transactions are going through self-checkout."
