Minyard Puts HQ, Warehouse on the Market

COPPELL, Texas -- Minyard Food Stores, Inc. is putting its 80-acre, 800,000-square-foot campus here on the block following a deal to outsource its warehouse and distribution operations to Kansas City, Kan.-based Associated Wholesale Grocers earlier this month.

The package deal comprises a 725,800-square-foot warehouse, which includes 137,400 square feet of refrigerated space and a 64,700-square-foot freezer; a 10,000-square-foot truck maintenance facility; a 14,000-square-foot storage building; and a 43,000-square-foot office building.

Minyard hopes to continue occupying the office building by leasing back its corporate headquarters from the buyer, according to local reports.

"We have no plans at this point to move our corporate headquarters," Paul Heilman, Minyard's s.v.p./marketing, was quoted as saying.

Minyard, now Associated Wholesale Grocers' largest co-op member, is angling to free up resources and upgrade its stores while focusing on growing its Hispanic-format Carnival stores, of which there are 23 in North Texas, along with 24 Minyard stores and 18 Sack 'n Saves.
