Minyard to Break Ground on Carnival Food Store Scheduled to Open This Summer
COPPELL, Texas -- Minyard Food Stores, Inc., based here, said yesterday that it would break ground on its newest Carnival Food Store, which is to be located on the Southwest corner of Westmorland and Illinois in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas. The groundbreaking ceremony will occur tomorrow at 10 a.m., with a grand opening planned for the summer of 2006. The Carnival concept caters specifically to the Hispanic shopper.
The location, in a 160,000-square-foot shopping complex spread over 26 acres, was chosen by the company because of new housing development and resulting population growth in the surrounding area, which is currently underserved. The 55,790-square-foot grocery store will feature a broad range of products and services, including in-store dining and picnic-style seating.

As well as Carnival, the anchor tenant, the shopping complex will also feature a Starbucks, Foot Locker, and Payless, along with restaurants and other local retailers. Dallas-based Direct Development is the developer of the complex.
Minyard currently operates 68 supermarkets and 15 On the Go fuel stations in six surrounding counties of the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, including 25 Minyard, 24 Carnival, and 19 Sack 'n Save stores. The company also operates its own 722,000-square-foot distribution center and a 43,000-square-foot office on an 81-acre corporate headquarters complex. Minyard employs 5,200 associates.
