'Minnesota Wild Food Dash' Teams NHL Players with Consumers in Stores
ST. PAUL, Minn.-- The Cub Foods grocery store in the Midway Shopping Center here turned wild in the aisles yesterday, as Minnesota Wild players and Cub Foods shoppers teamed up for Second Harvest's Heartland Food Bank.
In a heated competition, the two teams raced through the grocery aisles, hurling massive amounts of food into their carts. More than 100 spectators and autograph-seekers came out to cheer on the Wild players, and support the cause.
Together, the teams collected more than $5,300 worth of groceries for Second Harvest. In the 5-minute power play, the team of Wild goalie Dwayne Roloson and Coon Rapids resident Karen Wallace carted $3,452.34 in groceries. The pair handily edged out Elk River resident Chad Hansen and his teammate, Wild defenseman Nick Schultz, with the Schultz team gathering $1,868.05 in groceries.
"Second Harvest Heartland is great organization, and it's the reason Nick and I keep coming back to the event," said Roloson. "The partnership between the Wild, Cub Foods and Second Harvest Heartland is great one, and I hope it continues."
Wallace, the grand prizewinner, was awarded a $500 Cub Foods gift certificate, a Minnesota Wild jersey and two tickets to a Minnesota Wild hockey game. For his efforts, Hansen received a $100 Cub Foods gift certificate, a Minnesota Wild jersey and two tickets to a Minnesota Wild hockey game.
Contestants were chosen at random from an in-store drawing involving all 52 Twin Cities Cub Foods stores.
