Microsoft Promotes Geoff Thomas to U.S. Retail and Hospitality GM

REDMOND, Wash. - Geoff Thomas yesterday was appointed general manager of Microsoft Corp.'s U.S. Retail and Hospitality Group effective July 2. He will report to newly named v.p. of U.S. Commercial Sector Industries John Fikany.

Thomas, who formerly served as managing director of the group, will now lead strategy, sales, partnering, marketing, technical strategists, and solution specialists across the company's U.S. retail and hospitality organization, including specialty retail, general merchandise, food and drug, foodservice and lodging, gaming and entertainment vertical segments.

"Geoff is a strong leader with solid expertise in the issues facing retail and hospitality customers today," said Fikany. "I know he will continue to drive momentum in delivering Microsoft-based, industry-relevant solutions for our customers."

Since joining Microsoft in Sydney in 1991, Thomas has held various positions in the Asia-Pacific region, Redmond, Wash., and New York City, including enterprise sales management, channel strategy, training and certification, and industry solution sales. He was a founding member of Microsoft's Retail and Hospitality Group, serving as regional sales director for the northeast and central regions, and he is actively involved in Microsoft's Customer Advisory and Partner Advisory boards for both the retail and hospitality industries.

Prior to joining Microsoft, Thomas held enterprise sales positions at IBM and Unisys. He earned his bachelor's degree in business from Sydney's Kuring-gai College of Advanced Education, majoring in accounting and finance, and he resides in Ridgefield, Conn.
