Merchants Distributors Inc. and Revionics to Offer Price Optimization to Southern Grocers

HICKORY, N.C. -- Merchants Distributors, Inc. here is working with Revionics to offer price optimization services to MDI's retail customers in seven Southern states, the companies said yesterday.

The partnership expands MDI's current retail services offerings to include the Revionics Advanced Pricing System (RAPS). The RAPS solution utilizes point-of-sale (POS) generated demand data with other variables such as costs, competition and product mix to optimize retailer pricing. With RAPS, retailers often experience sales increases of 1-5 percent and margin increases of 1-2 percent, said Revionics.

Merchant's Distributors, Inc. is a subsidiary of Alex Lee, Inc., and supplies more 600 grocery stores in over seven states. At just under one million square feet, the MDI distribution center supplies 40,000 items in both food and non-food. Alex Lee also owns grocery chain Lowes Foods.

"As a wholesaler, MDI is focused on helping our retailers compete on a level playing field with larger chains," said Jay Schwarz, Vice President of Information Services for Alex Lee. "The Revionics Price Optimization system is a perfect complement to our current retail support offerings."

Revionics is a provider of price optimization systems to independent retailers.
