Meijer 'Wish Carefully' Viral Contest Catches On
:Meijer's online presence has received a major boost this holiday season, thanks to a viral game called "Wish Carefully." The online program, launched in late November at www.wishcarefully.com, has quickly spread to all 50 states with more than 300,000 users playing the game.
The "Wish Carefully" game provides users the opportunity to win one of a number of exciting holiday gifts, ranging from electronics to jewelry and gift cards. Users navigate through the game, "wishing" for gifts throughout the process, and are entered into a sweepstakes to win a prize. Users also have the chance to win a second prize at the end of the game.
The Grand Rapids, Mich.-based chain - which operates 185 supercenters throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky -- launched the "Wish Carefully" viral game as a fun way to encourage consumers to see the offerings on Meijer.com. Once they complete the game, users can choose to sign up for e-mail alerts about sales and promotions from Meijer.com, as well as refer friends to the game.
"The 'Wish Carefully' program has proven to be a very effective way for us to introduce people to the Meijer brand who may not be familiar with our company," said Dawn Bronkema, Meijer's director of e-commerce. "More than 30 percent of those playing the game have signed up to continue a dialogue with Meijer.com."
The total number of players continues to grow as nearly 20 percent of users who have registered with Meijer.com have also referred a friend, the chain said.
Thousands of users have also taken advantage of the available "widget," which allows them to place the game on their personal home pages, including popular social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook.
