Meijer Signs Statement of Support for the Guard and Reserve
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Fred Meijer, chairman emeritus of Meijer Inc. here and his son Doug Meijer, co-chairman, have signed Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Statement of Support for Meijer's Guard and Reserve employees at a Meijer store in Standale, Mich.
Meijer, with nearly 65,000 employees across the Midwest, is one of the largest employers of members of the National Guard and Reserve Components. "Meijer has been a leader in providing exceptional support to their Guard and Reserve employers," said Gary Aten, executive director of the Michigan ESGR committee for ESGR.
Gordon Sumner, executive director of ESGR, echoed Aten's sentiments. "Meijer is joining many of our nation's leading employers that pledge support for our troops. A Statement of Support serves two very vital functions: First, it demonstrates the strong level of support for our Guard and Reserve, which is important during this critical time. Second, it sends a clear message to the service members that while they're serving their country, they do not have to worry about their civilian jobs."
