Meijer Ships 'Magic String' to U.S. Troops
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Following the lead of one mother's mission to help protect her son and his fellow soldiers fighting in Iraq, Meijer here is helping to send nearly 6,000 cans of the liquid string, which the troops use to determine if bomb tripwires are in their paths.
After hearing about the efforts of Marcella and Ron Shriver to collect cans of the gel string tosend overseas, Meijer took count of its existing inventory, and with the help of Grand Rapids radio personality Kevin Matthews, WLAV arranged to ship almost 6,000 cans of Magic String to Baghdad.
"When we heard that we could help save our soldiers' lives, we immediately gathered our inventory to send over," said Stacie Behler, Meijer spokeswoman. "We are so grateful to WLAV and Kevin Matthews for helping us get this simple but important tool into the hands of our troops."
