Meijer Rolls Out Updated Photo Web Site

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Meijer launched its updated photo Web site this week with next-day four-inch-by-six-inch digital prints available for 10 cents each through Nov. 19. Meijer has tapped LifePics as its Internet provider for the site, which allows shoppers to upload digital photos and pick up prints at the retailer's 171 stores in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, and Ohio.

The site currently offers same-day and next-day prints, greeting cards, calendars, and more than 50 photo-related gifts, with one-hour prints scheduled to be available soon. The system features total kiosk and online integration so that customers can buy online what they can order in Meijer stores today.

"When we decided to upgrade our technology for allowing customers to print their photos via the Web, we looked at all the vendors in the industry and went with LifePics," explained Meijer senior photo buyer Rob Shadowens. "We needed a next-generation solution that lets customers choose between one-hour service, same-day service, and economy next-day service, while allowing us behind the scenes to route the job to the most economical and convenient printer for the job...Something new our customers will find is live technical help. This should speed up the process for answering questions. We are also [now] a print option on Google's photo-editing and --sharing tool, Picasa."

Added LifePics v.p. of sales and business development Vahe Christianian, "[Meijer is] without doubt one of the most sophisticated retailers in the world, and we are proud to be part of their organization by deploying our latest technology in online imaging services."

Meijer, a family-owned and -operated grocery and general merchandise supercenter retailer, operates 171 stores in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio.

LifePics, which offers the most complete online imaging solutions to photofinishers and professional photographers, allows consumers to pick up their prints at more than 1,700 locations across the United States and Canada.
