Meijer Opens 'New Look' Stores
DAYTON, Ohio - Grocery and general merchandise retailer Meijer Stores is launching what it calls a 'reinvented superstore format' at six of its Dayton, Ohio-area stores this week. The new design feature an emphasis on discount fashion, featuring clothing brands such as Levi's, Dockers, Gotcha, and Dickies Girl.
Dayton, Ohio-based Meijer began extensive remodeling in May, but store director Mischelle Langdon says the stores are more than a remodel. "Our guests are witnessing the Meijer concept of the reinvented superstore format. It's fun, impressive, exciting, and we can't wait to officially unveil it," she said.
The new look features a complete redesign of the store's interior with emphasis on the fashion area. "Today's shopper wants to find name brand fashions at a value price," said Jo Ann Ogee, Meijer group VP of fashion merchandising. "We have developed a format that visually transports our one- stop shopping guest into a fashions atmosphere with our department store layout. If women are more at ease shopping for fashions in a department store, they will find that experience in our Dayton stores," adds Ogee.
Meijer spent over $30 million to remodel its six Dayton area stores with the major portion concentrating on the fashions area. "Meijer started the supercenter concept in 1962 with the intent on making shopping easier for our customers -- by creating a one-stop shopping experience," said Dayton store director Sherry Bostick. "As the competition enters into the supercenter format, we must continue to reinvent one-stop shopping. By creating department stores within a promotional supercenter, we will be meeting our customers' desire for name brand fashion apparel, value and convenience," added Bostick.
Meijer, a family-owned and operated retailer, operates 156 stores throughout Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, and Ohio.
