Meijer Expands Walk-In Health Clinics
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Meijer, Inc. based here will open seven more health clinics in its Michigan stores in conjunction with Arcadia Resources, Inc., a national provider of home care, staffing services, and related home care equipment.
The news follows on the heels of Meijer's announcement in June that it was opening health clinics in nine Indiana stores. The chain's new walk-in clinics in Michigan scheduled to open in November 2006, will be located inside its stores in: Grand Rapids, Battle Creek, Cadillac, Benton Harbor, Portage, Three Rivers, and Jenison.
Arcadia is expanding on its partnership with Physicians' Organization of Western Michigan (POWM) in the endeavor with Meijer, for which POWM will provide the medical oversight and ensure best practices in clinic operations.
"Alternative-site healthcare is a delivery model that meets the needs of today's consumer," said Arcadia Resources chief executive John Elliott II. "Our clinics offer a lower cost, less waiting time solution for routine health care. We will continue to pursue opportunities to further expand our retail-based health clinics to other markets in the United States."
Meijer's clinics will be staffed by Arcadia nurse practitioners and will offer routine health services, such as the treatment for strep throat, bronchitis, ear infections, sinus infections, scrapes, and minor injuries. Additionally, the clinic will provide vaccines and routine screening, such as cholesterol and blood pressure, without an appointment and with little or no waiting time.
