McGinnis Sisters Sign Off on Third Site

PITTSBURGH -- The ink's dry, and it's official: McGinnis Sisters Special Food Stores, based here, signed a lease this week to open its third grocery store, in a new development under construction in the northern suburbs.

The new McGinnis store will co-anchor a shopping center with a new Walgreens. "We are ecstatic about the location, which will be situated on a great corridor in the heart of a wonderful community," Sharon McGinnis Young, one of the owners, told Progressive Grocer. The store is expected to open by September

"The community is welcoming us with open arms," said Young, noting the extensive focus group research the two-store grocer conducted to gauge consumer input. "We really know the type of store local residents want us to build, which is not another mega-superstore."

At 17,000 square feet, Young added, "The store will be a wonderful community fresh market."

Renowned for high-quality perishables, catering, and an array of customer events such as this month's lineup of holiday tastings, cooking classes with seasonal themes, and a "Home for the Holidays" open house, McGinnis Sisters operates two other stores in the Pittsburgh suburbs of Monroeville and Brentwood.
