Martin's Super Markets to Host Free Diabetes Class

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Come September, Martin's Super Markets based here will host in-store classes to explore the ways diabetics, as well as their families and friends, can reduce stress and anxiety and better manage their condition.

"Diabetes: A Guide To Living a Normal Life," is the eighth class topic in Martin's 2007 pharmacy-sponsored schedule of educational events.

"Stress management techniques, such as progressive muscle relaxation and breathing exercises, can have a meaningful therapeutic effect on the control of blood sugar," said Staci Norman, Martin's Pharmacies' clinical coordinator. "By learning simple approaches to manage their anxieties, along with proper medications, diabetics can actually reduce their average blood glucose levels."

Most classes will accommodate up to 25 participants. Sessions are approximately one-hour long, and there is no fee. The regional chain is directed interested participants to phone or visit their nearest Martin's Pharmacy and pre-register.

It is estimated that almost 5 percent of diabetics exhibit symptoms associated with panic disorders, as well as with depression.

Martin's Super Markets has 20 stores in South Bend, Mishawaka, Granger, Elkhart, Goshen, Plymouth, Nappanee and Logansport, Ind., and Niles, Stevensville and St. Joseph, Mich.
