Marsh Signs with Lawson to Gain Ops Insights

INDIANAPOLIS -- Marsh Supermarkets, Inc. here has inked a deal with St. Paul, Minn.-based Lawson Software to license the latter's S3 Enterprise performance management, human capital management, financial management and supply chain management suites.

Marsh will use Lawson's enterprise software solutions to support its growth plans and provide operational insight and analysis across its financial, purchasing and workforce management processes.

Lawson Professional Services will provide implementation and support at Marsh when it's operational at the end of this month.

"With Lawson's help, we will be able to re-engineer our finance, IT and HR departments, enabling us to become more proactive and capitalize on business opportunities," said Bob Riesbeck, Marsh's c.f.o. "We anticipate the time and cost savings attained with these improvements in the first year to equal that of our entire software purchase."

Before choosing Lawson, Marsh maintained a homegrown, disparate business software system that didn't meet the requirements of its growing business or the reporting requirements of its new parent company, Sun Capital Partners.

The Lawson system will also help Marsh improve employee productivity by eliminating duplicate data entry with automated workflows to streamline key financial processes, such as budgeting and forecasting.

Marsh operates 103 supermarkets and employs nearly 9,000 associates.

Lawson has more than 350 retail customers worldwide, including 10 of the top 25 specialty retailers, seven of the top 25 grocery chains, eight of the top 25 global retailers, six of the top 25 food service chains and eight of the top 30 U.S. convenience store companies.
