Mariano’s to Anchor Chicago Shopping Center
Mariano’s Fresh Market will open its first location within the city of Chicago at Riverview Plaza (left), a 140,460-square-foot Roscoe Village shopping center currently undergoing redevelopment. The banner of Milwaukee-based Roundy's has leased 51,298 square feet, with plans to a store in late summer.
The gourmet grocer offers a wide selection of regular and specialty food items, including bagels, imported cheeses and butcher cuts of meats, as well as such in-store amenities as an Italian coffee and gelato shop, a wood-fired pizza oven, sit-down sushi dining and a full-service pharmacy.
“Mariano’s Fresh Market will offer area residents an exciting new grocery experience and add vibrancy to this established center,” noted Nick Wibbenmeyer, VP and regional officer at Chicago-based developer Regency Centers, which is overseeing the project. “The significant investment of Regency Centers and Mariano’s Fresh Market will create a new shopping experience that matches the high quality of the Roscoe Village community it serves. As part of this transformation, we will also be renaming the center to Roscoe Square to further integrate our center into the local community.”
The $14 million redevelopment of the center includes a new exterior façade; upgraded architectural components; parking lot improvements; new walkways, site lighting, landscaping and signage; and the installation of such energy-efficient features as an underground storm retention system and a green roof covered with vegetation. All of the center’s current retailers, among them Toys”R”Us/Babies”R”Us, Quiznos, GNC and Walgreens, will remain open during the project, which is expected to be completed in the fall.
