Margaret Holmes Seeks ‘Best Southern Summer Dishes’
Margaret Holmes has rolled out a ‘Best Southern Summer Dishes’ recipe contest that through Sept. 6, will enable consumers to send in recipes combining any of the brand’s canned products, which include such Southern classics as collard greens, butter peas, tomatoes okra and corn, and yellow squash, as well as seasoned vegetables including mix greens, field peas and snaps, and Italian green beans; southern peaches and Peanut Patch Boiled Peanuts. The winning recipe will earn its creator a $1,000 gift card.
Administered through the Margaret Holmes Facebook page, the contest invites home chefs to submit original recipes, along with a photo or video of the completed dish, by e-mail at [email protected]. Recipes will then be posted to the Facebook page so that fans and Margaret Holmes staffers can vote on them, based on the following criteria: best use of Margaret Holmes products, originality and presentation.
The Facebook page additionally features cooking tips, facts and nutritional information on Margaret Holmes vegetable products, a monthly video cooking demonstration, polls and contests, and the opportunity for fans of the brand to interact.
“Many people are cooking out or going on picnics this time of year, so we would like to see how people incorporate Margaret Holmes products into their recipes,” noted Woody Swink of the brand’s parent company, Effingham, S.C.-based McCall Farms, a canner and distributor of Southern-style vegetable products. “Not only can our fans showcase their favorite recipes on our Facebook page, but they can also get inspired by other recipe submissions and possibly try something new.
