Man Sentenced for Bashas' Baby Food Jar Hoax
TUCSON, Ariz. -- A Tucson man who pled guilty to tampering with a baby food jar inside a Bashas' supermarket has been sentenced to 16 months in prison, according to published reports. Additionally, the court said he owes $15,000 in restitution to Bashas'.
Michael McLaughlin, 49, was convicted on a federal charge of tampering with a consumer product. Last August, he reportedly told his sister that he had tainted five baby food jars with rat poison, but then admitted to the police that it was a hoax. As a precaution, Bashas' pulled all the baby food jars from its store shelves.
