LPGA Pro Sponsored by United's Market Street Banner to Headline Charity Tourney
United Supermarkets will host the 2008 Jacky Pierce Charity Classic golf tournament on Sept. 15 to benefit six Children’s Miracle Network hospitals in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, with Brittany Lang, an LPGA tour pro sponsored by Market Street, United Supermarkets’ specialty store format, as the special guest.
Lang, a native of McKinney, Texas, is in her third season as a tour pro, and has earned almost $400,000, with three top-10 finishes this year. She will conduct a golf clinic at the event. The 17th annual event will be held at Bear Creek Golf Course near DFW Airport.
The tournament has raised almost $2 million for charities since its inception in 1991, and is named in honor of United Supermarkets’ longtime produce director, Jacky Pierce. Pierce died in 2002 and the tourney was renamed in his honor in 2003.
This is the first year that tournament proceeds will go to Children’s Miracle Network. Beneficiaries include Hendrick Medical Center, Abilene; Baptist St. Anthony's Health System, Amarillo; Children's Medical Center, Dallas; Cook Children's Medical Center, Fort Worth; UMC Children's Hospital, Lubbock; and United Regional Health Care System, Wichita Falls.
